NIL has changed the face of the sneaker game. Not only are high school and college athletes cashing in on paydays from major sneaker brands, but in the case of BYU star freshman AJ Dybantsa, they’re also serving as debut stars for highly anticipated new silhouettes. The Boston-raised forward has been leading the charge for the Nike GT Future for months now, and in a homecoming game against UConn over the weekend, Dybantsa popped out in a Boston-themed PE colorway.
AJ Dybantsa's new Nike GT Future PE was made specifically for the BYU-UConn game at the Boston Garden, bringing a Celtics theme to represent the bright lights and parquet floor of Dybantsa’s hometown squad. Starting with a slime green on the base of the upper, the shoe features a gradient that evolves into white towards the ankle, adding more green to the vertical Swooshes on the tongue. The lateral side panel Swoosh branding is done in another gradient, this time going from green to yellow. A black outline across the laces, sock-liner, and outsole makes the entire upper pop.
Before suiting up for a 25-point effort in a two-point loss against UConn, Dybantsa stopped by Concepts for a hometown meet and greet and debut of the silver Nike GT Future. We got the chance to talk to the BYU star about his unique opportunity as the young face of the new silhouette. “It’s a blessing,” Dybansta told Sole Retriever. “I’ve seen a lot of rappers and like PJ Tucker wear them, so it feels good for me to be the first one to play on the court with them.”
You won’t be able to cop AJ’s PE Celtics colorway of the Nike GT Future, but after months of anticipation, the shoe is finally dropping for Holiday 2025. The first pair will be the bright metallic silver colorway that dropped early at Concepts over the weekend. A wider release will take place on December 20.
