For four decades, Jordan Brand has been dropping footwear inspired by the greatest player ever. The long-running signature shoe has spawned a litany of heralded silhouettes, with the ones most fondly revered tied to the models His Airness donned during his fifteen seasons in the NBA.

Jordan Brand isn’t using the Air Jordan 40 to celebrate just the playing accolades of Michael Jordan, but the history of the Air Jordan line in its entirety. They’ve spotlighted the Jordan archive by blending the anniversary model with some of the more underrated models in the Jordan catalog, including the Air Jordan 4020 with the laser-etched strap of the Air Jordan 20 and the Air Jordan 4016 that implements the lace cover of the Air Jordan 16.

The underrated Air Jordan 28 is the latest Air Jordan model to do the fusion dance with the Air Jordan 40 for a new hybrid silhouette called the Air Jordan 4028. After being seen in leaks, retailer images of the Air Jordan 4028 have arrived ahead of its wider release, giving us a more detailed look at the melded model first spotted on Paolo Banchero and recently spotted on Trae Young.

The upcoming Air Jordan 4028 keeps it more lowkey compared to Banchero’s PE, implementing the dark hue of the Air Jordan 28 Stealth that released in 2013. The sneaker features a shiny patent leather toe of the Air Jordan 40, making way for the tall zipper shroud of the formerly Russell Westbrook-led model in all black.

In zipped form, the sneaker keeps a low profile with only a white Jumpman logo embroidered on the lateral sides and green Nike branding on the heel counter. Unzipping the shroud unveils hits of green on the inner layer that would have fit in perfectly with the celebration of the Air Max Neon collection. That same highlighter hue hits the Air Jordan 28’s branding that fuses the numbers 2,3,8 on the lateral side. Completing the look is an icy translucent outsole for that vintage Jordan touch.
