Sneakers to Wear for the Dodgers Parade

Congratulations, fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Your team just won the World Series after a hard-fought series that lasted seven games and contained the most innings ever played for a World Series. To go through the rigors of spring training to the long slog of a regular season that had more than its share of ups and downs, it’s a pleasure to be able to see the iconic World Series trophy raised in a city with as deep a history with the sport of baseball as Los Angeles. The staff at Sole Retriever would like to congratulate you on this moment that you will cherish forever and we can’t wait to see the parade that will take place in the City of Angels.

And now that we have gotten the formalities out of the way, there is only one question that remains unanswered: what sneakers will you wear to the parade? With Los Angeles expecting the same weather that makes them the envy of most of the country even though they don’t want to admit it, the swath of sneaker choices is going to cover a lot of bases. The fine folks at Sole Retriever have got your back with some top picks that will have people checking your fit in a Shohei Ohtani or Mookie Betts jersey.

Ranked one of the best sneaker releases of 2023, the late Chris “Spanto” Printup’s Born X Raised label was on its way to becoming a major player on a national level and this SB Dunk collab was going to be the project that let everybody know they had arrived. The sneaker might not be officially a Dodgers sneaker, but the colors and the messages behind the shoe about celebrating and preserving culture definitely had some Dodger energy to it. Unfortunately, Spanto passed right as the sneaker was about to be released. It was a sad blow to the city and to its culture. The sneaker is now not only a celebration of LA, but a celebration of Spanto’s life and everything he represented. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear if several pairs were in attendance in last year’s parade and if more make it to this year’s edition if the Dodgers go back-to-back.

Despite the lack of Dodgers branding, the influences on this pair of SB Dunks are as obvious as the pink splatter on the gum sole referencing bubble gum. The colors coordinate perfectly with the team’s legendary white and blue jersey, with a hint of red, references to Los Angeles via the tree graphic, and the welcome sign on the inside tongue complete the homage. It’s hard to say this is part of the Dodgers fan starter pack because they are priced nearly triple of a regular pair of SB Dunks, but these are as close to a must-have for a fan as it’s going to get. Expect to see plenty of these at the parade downtown before making their way back to the stadium.

In an attempt to separate themselves from every other Dodgers-inspired sneaker that’s ever been made, adidas took their cues from the iconic seating at Dodger Stadium. Colored in a unique pattern that represents the scenic Los Angeles landscape, spanning the blue of the ocean, the green of the natural beauty, and the orange and yellow of the sunsets, this Ultraboost was one for the diehards. It’s the LA equivalent of brands making PDX carpet sneakers for Portland residents and sneakerheads who make the trip to visit all of the employee stores. If you know, you know…

Vans Sk8-Hi Dodgers (2018)

The beneficiary of several collabs through the years with Vans, Dodger fans will have no problem searching for any number of classic silhouettes with the team’s branding. In 2018, they teamed up with Vans for a two-pack featuring the Old Skool and Sk8-Hi that you’ll still see at Dodger Stadium no matter where you sit. The Sk8-Hi stands out because despite the gaudy placement of the Dodgers logo that occupies the entirety of the shoe’s upper, it’s still a banger that you can rock just about anywhere, even outside of the city. It’ll play in the Valley, in the Inland Empire, in Riverside, in Bakersfield… although that might be stretching it if we’re being honest.

Sure, you could rock the Nike LeBron 7 Dodgers that released in 2021. You could do that and all of your friends who are “true” Laker fans will look at you with eyebrows raised because they still don’t consider LeBron James a “true” Laker. Or you could save yourself the hassle and find a pair of the Nike Kobe 6 Protro Dodgers to wear to the parade. The late Kobe Bryant made no secret about his love for the Dodgers as he made frequent appearances at Chavez Ravine.

He was there for a handful of big moments for the team, including an iconic moment of him celebrating a Yasiel Puig home run during Game 4 of the 2018 World Series. The photo from that moment is forever etched in the memories of Dodger fans, Laker fans, and Angelinos. It’s also the cleanest example of the gap between Kobe and LeBron in LA: because as great as LeBron James has been throughout his run as a Laker, he simply will not have those bits of LA lore that further weaved Kobe into the fabric of the city. He could win a few more championships with the Lakers and it still wouldn’t be enough. LeBron and Kobe are both beloved figures worldwide, but only one of them belongs to LA, and that includes the Lakers and the Dodgers*.

*Apologies to the LA Kings, I know he went to some games too. And we all know he was a Philadelphia Eagles fan, so it’s not really worth mentioning the Rams or the Chargers.
