The gorpcore trend has maintained a steady pace in the fashion and sneaker world as brands continue to provide us with outdoor-ready models from years past. Of all the options on the market for gorpcore footwear, Salomon is one of the most technically advanced, as the French-based label has an extensive archive of models that fit the bill. Reaching back to the brand’s Y2K era, Salomon is bringing back the once-women's-exclusive XT-Whisper model.
Originally launched in 2000 as a women's version of the XT-Hawk model, the silhouette returns in OG fashion with this nature-inspired Treetop colorway. Unlike many of Salomon's silhouettes, the model opts for a less aggressive design language, including wavy paneling and softer angles. Brown-shaded leather hits the toebox, vamp, eyestays, and heel overlay, contrasting the green mesh base and light green wavy midfoot overlay.
Contrasting the earthy tones is a burgundy nylon strip on the spine of the tongue, hosting XT-Whisper branding details. Other nods to Salomon are found on the tongue tab, toebox, and lateral overlay, the lateral spelling out the brand’s name atop a light green textured leather stripe. Technical features of the silhouette include the quickLACE system for easy on and off, a sensiFIT internal construction for a secure and snug fit, and the combo of 3D mesh and anti-debris mesh for breathability and to prevent debris from getting trapped.
Everything comes complete with the Agile Chassis System-laden EnergyCell midsole with a tonal cream and brown finish. It is paired with a rubber outsole that contains Chevron lugs for multi-directional traction and Mud Contagrip for maximum grip on loose, rugged, and uneven surfaces.
The Salomon XT-Whisper Treetop is available today, December 10, 2024, through Salomon and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $140.
