One of Europe’s premier footwear destinations, Asphaltgold has recently expanded its physical presence, opening a new location in Frankfurt, Germany, in April. The German city must have had a profound impact on Asphaltgold, as the retailer is launching a new collaboration with Salomon on the XT-4 inspired by one of the city’s most renowned landmarks.
Frankfurt Airport, the busiest airport in the country and sixth busiest in Europe, inspires the new Salomon XT-4. More specifically, the concept of travel serves as the design anchor for the collab, as the silver accents and sleek metallic aesthetic reference the aesthetic of modern airports. A wavy pattern on the fused TPU overlays reflects light just like the glass facades of the airport gates.

More of this reflection is found on the silver-grey mesh base, which comes with patterned white spots. The words “arrival” and “departure” grace the left and right sneaker’s tongue, resting in between Salomon and Asphaltgold logos and continuing to play off the airport theme. Finishing the design is the co-branded insole, split-branded heel tab, cream midsole with semi-transparent ACS support, and a tonal rubber outsole.
The Asphaltgold x Salomon XT-4 Transit will release July 26, 2025, at Asphaltgold’s Darmstadt and Frankfurt locations. An online release will take place on August 2. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at €189 (approx $220 USD).
