2023 was a big year for the Air More Uptempo. Not only were sneakerheads treated to high-profile collabs from the likes of AMBUSH, but we also got a retro of the Nike Air More Uptempo Black White.
While it wasn’t an exact one-to-one replica of the OG, it came impressively close to the version that dominated professional courts during the NBA’s golden era. And if you missed out the first time, you’re in luck – a restock is officially on the way.
First taking flight during the Chicago Bulls’ 1996 championship season, the Air More Uptempo defined basketball footwear for a generation. Designed by Wilson Smith III, its unapologetically bold “AIR” lettering and visible Air cushioning system captured the larger-than-life energy of the decade – a time when sneakers were as much about attitude as they were performance. As the silhouette approaches its 30th anniversary in 2026, its influence across both hoops culture and street style feels stronger than ever.

For this returning Black White edition, Nike keeps things refreshingly true to form. The upper is dressed in jet black nubuck, contrasted by crisp white trim that outlines the oversized “AIR” graphics across the sidewalls. A glossy black Jewel Swoosh sits proudly on the heel, while underfoot, a full-length Air unit delivers that signature bounce and comfort that made the Uptempo a fan favorite from day one.
What makes the Air More Uptempo so significant, though, is its place in basketball and sneaker history. Sure, Air Jordans ruled the courts, but the Uptempo represented something different – a symbol of individuality and the power of visible Air. It was as much a statement piece as it was a performance shoe, and nearly three decades later, that same defiant spirit still resonates.
