Nike is certainly no stranger when it comes to celebrating annual events. But while it usually sticks to more mainstream ones like Christmas, Easter, or Halloween, this season it’s turning its attention to something far more niche with the Nike LD-1000 Culture Day 2025. Honoring the beloved Japanese holiday, if you’re looking for some kawaii kicks to add to your collection, you definitely don’t want to miss these.
So what is Culture Day? Taking place every year on November 3rd, Culture Day (known in Japan as Bunka no Hi) is a national holiday that celebrates the arts, academic achievement, and Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Parades, exhibitions, and award ceremonies are held across the country, while museums and galleries open their doors for free, drawing massive crowds.

For this special edition sneaker, the Beaverton brand has paid homage to Harajuku girls – the colorful style icons you’d usually find dressed in playful, frilly, and often mismatched layers around Tokyo’s ultra-chic fashion district. The upper is dripped out in a plaster white sherpa material, itself completely covered with multi-colored snowflakes. A blue gingham Swoosh cuts boldly across the sidewalls, inspired by their signature doll-like dresses, and it's further outlined with a series of tiny pearls.
The cute custom insoles are printed with beads, florals, and gothic typography, while around the heel, the classic “Nike” badge is reimagined with cheeky black polka dots. Fuzzy laces tie everything together, and it all comes complete with a melted snowman dubrae crafted exclusively for this release. Down below, the midsole is dipped in a creamy sail hue for those serious vintage vibes, finished off with a grippy waffle sole to keep you on your feet all day.
There’s never been an LD-1000 quite like the Nike LD-1000 Culture Day 2025, and honestly, there probably never will be again. Scheduled to drop during Holiday 2025 for $125, it will launch online and in-store at Nike and select retailers overseas only.
