Nike has been cooking up for the World Cup all year. Now, with one of the biggest events in sports set to kick off soon, The Swoosh is dropping official images from their X2 collection, which pairs seven national soccer teams and seven designers for an apparel collection and their take on the Nike Cryoshot series. For the Netherlands, renowned Dutch brand Patta takes on the boot that started the football boot revolution, Nike Mercurial Vapor R9.

Originally dropped in 1998, the Nike Mercurial Vapor R9 was crafted specifically for Brazilian star Ronaldo. The model signified a shift in performance boots, with the silhouette being one of the first models to feature synthetic materials instead of the traditional kangaroo leather. Add in that distinct, wavy pattern, and you have one of the most iconic boots to hit the pitch.

The sneaker features a metallic silver upper crafted of the famed synthetic material found on the original. A red line trims the silver shapes, adding even more visual pop to an eye-catching silhouette. That red trim also helps to separate the silhouette’s predominant shade of black. A clear midsole with visible spikes evokes the titular cryo theme.
