Archival Air Max sneakers have always held their place in the hearts of sneakerheads, but the mainstream is only now getting a taste of some of these Y2K-era silhouettes. Enter the Air Max Sunder, which made its triumphant return (although after a CDG collab in 2022) in full in August 2024. Since then, the sneaker has been subject to multiple makeovers, some simple, vibrant color schemes and others featuring Gore-Tex material. As part of the brand’s Spring 2025 lineup, a Light Army color palette is applied to the Sunder.
The stretchy mesh base seen on most Air Max Sunders remains here, coated in the titular light army shade. Nubuck paneling along the mudguard that stretches across the profile comes in a green shade dubbed fir, with the panel also hosting the TPU plugs that have become a defining feature of the Air Max Sunder. More shades of fir green are placed on the mini Swoosh, sockliner, collar, and pull tabs along the tongue and heel.
Lacing is shrouded by a zipper enclosure, which not only hides the laces but hosts a clever homage to the 2000s with the numbers 6, 4, 5, and 3, spelling out Nike on an old-school cellphone keypad. Down below, the silhouette’s midsole comes in a clean white and black combo with exposed Air units in the forefoot and heel. Finishing the look is the black rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max Sunder Light Army W will release in Spring 2025 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in women’s sizing, the retail price is $180.
