As we all know, style trends are cyclical, with previous decades and era working their back into the cultural zeitgeist. Today, the Y2K aesthetic is as strong as it was 25 years ago, and footwear brands have taken notice by bringing back old styles from this era and introducing new ones that feel as if they belonged back then. Nike did the latter with the Air Max Muse, a sneaker that debuted earlier in the month and has begun to appear in various new color schemes.
For the Muse’s latest makeover, Nike applies a tonal cave stone finish to the multi-paneled and multi-material upper. Suede pods appear near the forefoot and toe, wrapped in a textured leather overlay that covers much of the sneaker and gives off the appearance of silky velvet. For breathability, mesh panels land on the toe and midfoot, the latter also playing host to a black metallic Swoosh.

Air Max branding finds its place atop the tongue, the insole, and the heel tab. The exaggerated proportions and Y2K aesthetics shine once you head to the bottom half of the sneaker. In the heel, a bulbous and large foam and rubber pod come together to encapsulate a visible Air unit, while the front half takes on a flat finish that sees the upper extend down to the rubber outsole below.
The Nike Air Max Muse Cave Stone W will release on January 29, 2025, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in women’s sizing, the retail price is $160.
