Nike’s been digging into the vault over the last half-decade, reviving silhouettes that were forgotten to time or only appreciated by a cult following on what seemed like a monthly basis. The latest model to come back from the dead is the women’s Nike Air Max Craze, a model developed by Nike in the early 2000s and launched in 2001 as a cross-training silhouette for the ladies. Now, 24 years later, the archival silhouette is returning in one of its original colorways.
While the silhouette may look like a 1:1 retro of the original, Nike improved the internal construction in many ways for a better fit and feel. Across the upper, we see a neoprene base with a printed grid pattern and wavy linear lines. Akin to the Air Max Sunder, another archival Air Max sneaker from the 2000s, the model comes with a bootie construction and a zipper enclosure.
On the heel is where the most radical design feature sits as the silhouette itself is constructed as an open-back. However, an added TPU strap on the midfoot hosts the padded slingback that cups your heel and keeps you in place. Underfoot, the model has a white foam midsole featuring black details surrounding the Air units in the forefoot and heel paired with a black and citrus rubber outsole.
