Nike's Zoom Vomero 5 has proven to be a worthy contender in a world obsessed with Y2K-era running shoes, and the latest colorway of the casual runner picks up a Japanese Sashiko stitching style that the Swoosh has added to several shoes in the past.
The Zoom Vomero 5 Sashiko Pale Ivory is a patchwork of khaki tans, combining an official color palette of Muslin/Pale Ivory-College Grey-Sail into a shoe that manages to blend in and stand out at the same time. The Sashiko style stitching, exposed and rough around the edges, spans the entirety of the shoe in spurts, crawling vertically across the side panels and horizontally on the toe, heel, and tracing the Swoosh.
An ancient embroidery technique that dates as far back as 16th century Japan, Sashiko is designed to be both decoration and reinforcement. When Nike debuted a Sashiko pack in 2020, the Swoosh used the functional embroidery on a Dunk SB, Blazers, and Kyrie S2, placing the reinforcing stitches across the ollie pads on the Dunk SB and Blazers, and across the ankle collar and medial side wall on the Kyries.
The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Sashiko Pale Ivory will release in Fall 2025 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $170.
