Even though the Zoom Vomero 5 has become a key part of Nike’s release plans in the last year, there’s been a distinctive lack of collaborative colorways since its surge in popularity. Last month, we did see Dover Street Market launch an understated Vomero 5 project with emerald green reflective elements on the all-black sneaker. Still, now Nike is tapping another partner to work on the model. Hong Kong fencer Cheung Ka Long is getting his own take on the silhouette this time.
Previously, Cheung Ka Long worked with Nike on the Air Max 97 in 2022 to commemorate his gold medal win in 2021 at the Tokyo Summer Olympics, marking the first gold medal won by Hong Kong in fencing. This new take on the Vomero comes after Ka Long won his second gold medal during the Paris Summer Olympics, with the design borrowing a few elements from this first collab. Cheung Ka Long’s motto, “Don’t Lose Your Way,” is placed on the insole. For its color palette, the model comes coated primarily in greyscale hues with beige accents hitting the midfoot cage and the TPU heel counter.
Pops of color on the nylon lace loops and the golden text on the Nike-branded tongue tag help contrast the neutral hues. Another hit of gold comes located on the silver heel tab, and the mini Swoosh gets a metallic finish. Finishing the design is the white foam midsole with Cushlon 3.0 and Zoom Air cushioning paired with a blue and milky cream rubber outsole that contains the number 1 to represent Cheung Ka Long.
The Cheung Ka Long x Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Don’t Lose Your Way will release on December 14, 2024, through Nike Hong Kong online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is $1,099 HKD. It’s currently unknown if the pair will be released outside the region, though it’s likely the case as Cheung Ka Long’s Air Max 97 was exclusive to Hong Kong.
