We hate to admit it, but the Nike GT Future didn’t land as well as we would have hoped. Nike likely agrees, as the model was marketed as the next performance sneaker under the Greater Than hoop shoe series, but has barely appeared in competition. AJ Dybantsa, the number one pick in the NBA draft, was at one point the face of the line, but even when he rocked the model on court, he would swap into something different before the game was over. Still, it’s found a life off the court as a lifestyle model, and the latest rendition applies a classic combo of black and varsity red to the avant-garde hoop shoe.
The metallic synthetic molded upper shines bright in varsity red, with wavy striations giving the one-piece mold some depth. Moving back, a black Swoosh cuts across the lateral heel, and on the medial side, the logo appears closer to the toe. More black details are found on the lining of the molded upper, blending in with the black tongue and sockliner.

Pops of red also make their mark atop the tongue with an upside-down Nike Swoosh. Though not entirely visible in these product photos, the inside of the shoe features a black bootie for a snug fit. In actuality, the model fits more like a low-top, but the protruding winged finish around the collar gives it a deceptively high-cut look. Underfoot sits some serious cushioning that, in most hoop shoes, would make it elite. There’s a full-length Zoom Air Strobel unit alongside a Zoom Air unit in the forefoot. Atop this is a Cushlon 3.0 foam. Unfortunately, the stiff upper makes it not totally viable as an on-court performer, but you’ll be comfortable taking steps in casual settings.
The Nike GT Future Varsity Red will be released Fall 2026 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $210.
