It might seem like America is the heart of basketball culture, and to be fair, the game was invented in Georgia with a peach basket. But these days, the global obsession with the sport has caught up, and on the island nation of the Philippines, NBA superstars like Kobe Bryant are like Elvis and The Beatles wrapped into one.
The Nike Kobe 9 Protro EM Low Philippines was first released in 2014 as a Twitter link exclusive (oh, how times have changed), and now, the pair is coming back with a wide release for this year’s holiday season. Crafted as a love letter to Filipino basketball culture, the colorway features a custom print on the engineered mesh upper designed by half-Filipino designer Erick Goto.
The all-over-print upper features a mix of black, yellow, and blue on a red base with a unique blend of stacked squares, bars, and hand-drawn graphic accents. The laces also feature a red graphic print, and white on the side panel Swoosh and sheath tongue logo stand out against black on the tongue, sockliner, and speckled midsole. To round it all out, the outsole is translucent as a message to Filipino hoopers who grew up balling even if they couldn’t afford shoes.
The Nike Kobe 9 Protro EM Low Philippines will be released Holiday 2026 through Nike and select retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $200. For all the latest Nike Kobe news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
