The Nike Kobe 8 Protro Year of the Horse Releases January 2026

After “restarting” the Nike Kobe line with the release of the Nike Kobe 8 Protro Halo in 2023, The Swoosh has blessed us with an array of Protros and new colorways across Bryant’s signature sneaker line. We’ve already got an idea of what’s coming next year from the Nike Kobe series, including a re-release of the Nike Kobe 1 Protro 81 Point Game, but Sole Retriever can confirm another Kobe sneaker making a comeback next year. For the first time, the Nike Kobe 8 Year of the Horse is getting a Protro release.

Over its history, the Nike Kobe line has paid homage to the Chinese New Year through special colorways tied to that specific year’s zodiac sign. 2025 saw the Year of the Snake honored on the Nike Kobe 5 Protro in multiple colorways, while previous years included the Year of the Dragon (2012), Year of the Snake (2013), and Year of the Horse (2014).

2026’s Year of the Horse Kobe 8 Protro is expected to retain the same exact design as the pair that dropped 12 years prior. The knit upper comes with varying red hues, yellow accents on the Swoosh and laces, the Kobe sheath logo on the tongue, the Kobe signature on the lateral heel, and pops of blue on the sockliner. While the outer portion of the shoe will remain the same, the internals will be upgraded like other Kobe 8 Protros. Included here is the removal of Lunarlon for React cushioning and an updated herringbone traction pattern on the outsole.

The Nike Kobe 8 Protro Year of the Horse will release January 31, 2026, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $180.
