Fans of Kevin Durant’s signature line with Nike can all agree that the KD 4 is one of, if not the best, Nike Basketball models from the early 2010s. Luckily, Nike has been on a tear retroing classic colorways and introducing new takes to the sneaker, with 2024 seeing pairs like the Galaxy, Nerf, Weatherman, and Aunt Pearl hitting shelves. For 2025, we already know the iconic Scoring Title rendition is returning for All-Star Weekend, but it will be joined by an all-new Alternate MVP that flips the script on the Royal White Gold pair dropping later this year. Originally, it was reported that the Entourage KD 4 was returning; however, that release has been scrapped.
Nike honors Kevin Durant’s mother through quotes from his iconic 2014 MVP press conference speech in which he highlighted how Wanda Durant impacted him and made him the man he is today. For those who may have forgotten, this is where the “You the real MVP” meme and phrase was born, stated at the end of Durant’s seven-minute speech accepting the NBA MVP. “We wasn’t supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street. You put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You the real MVP.”
Regal colors of royal blue and gold collide with a primarily white silhouette, adding these touches to the branding details along the tongue, heel, and the Swoosh on the lockdown strap. When lifted, the strap reveals a snippet of Durant’s speech alongside a rose graphic, both displayed in gold. An added golden basketball lands inside the KD logo atop the tongue, while the lace aglets, containing “The Real MVP” text in black, come in matching gold.
Inside, the insole contains custom graphics, with the left pair featuring “You The Real MVP” and the right featuring a Kevin Durant-themed MVP trophy. A direct nod to his mother, Wanda, is found on the lining of the tongue, with her name embroidered alongside a rose graphic in gold. The final details on the upper include the words “faith” and “love” written in gold on the royal blue loops holding the strap in place and the white and gold KD logo on the heel. Finishing the sneaker is the gradient blue foam midsole paired with a solid blue outsole.
The Nike KD 4 Alternate MVP will release on February 16, 2025, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $150.
