Nike's storied legacy with collegiate basketball is undeniable, and the Dunk is part of this story. The brand has consistently paid homage to the vigor and spirit of university teams, encapsulated best by the iconic "Be True To Your School" collection from the '80s. The Michigan Wolverines colorway, with its memorable hues, was an integral part of this legendary collection. Nike is reimagining the Wolverine spirit for the contemporary sneaker lover with the Nike Dunk Low in Black Michigan.
Taking cues from the original, the modern rendition of this Dunk Low offers a fresh perspective while staying loyal to its roots. This iteration plays with color placement, turning the tables on the OG design. The dominant black shades envelop the toebox, quarter panel, sockliner, and tongue, lending the sneaker a contrasting edge. Yet, what sets this version apart is its commitment to a vintage appeal. The navy segments on the mudguard, eyestays, and heel overlay have raw leather edges, adding a rustic touch. The collar, textured to resemble aged, cracked leather, hints at a layered yellow leather beneath its black surface, adding depth and intrigue to the design. Bright yellow touches on the Swoosh, tongue branding, and heel bring home the Michigan spirit. To finish, a muted sail midsole contrasts beautifully with a black rubber outsole.
The Nike Dunk Low Black Michigan will release February 1, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $125.
