When Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman founded Nike back in the 1960s, it was a running shoe brand made by athletes, for athletes. With the company's 60th anniversary coming up just around the corner, it's celebrating its collegiate roots with the Athletic Department collection. After checking out the Air Force 1 Low, Air Max 97, and Dunk High at the end of last year, we're now getting out first look at the latest recruit with the Nike Dunk Low Athletic Department "Photon Dust Picante Red." Set to be one of the pack's most popular pairs, make sure you keep reading to find out everything that we know so far.
While this isn't the only Dunk Low to be releasing as part of the collection, it's the first one to receive a white canvas base that's overlaid by light smoke grey suede panels throughout. A picante red Swoosh shoots through the lateral and medial sides in leather, and this fiery hue extends towards the sockliner for a red hot aesthetic. Elsewhere, the flat laces and midsole have been dipped in pale vanilla for a seriously vintage vibe, and while you can't see it from these shots, the insole is printed with "ATHLETIC DEPT." and "1972" in a varsity-inspired style, complete with a grinning bulldog motif that's giving us an old school look and feel.
The Nike Dunk Low Athletic Department Photon Dust Picante Red is set to release May 16th, 2023. It will drop in men's sizes at Nike, the SNKRS app, and at select retailers in-store and online for a retail price of $110. If you're looking for a more in-depth breakdown of the Dunk, check out our Nike Dunk Buyers Guide, and keep it locked to our Twitter andMobile App to stay up to date on future releases.
