Low-profile and thin-sole sneakers have become a major hit in fashion circles; look at the variety of balletcore-inspired sneakers from adidas. Other brands have taken notice of this trend and are beginning to introduce and reintroduce models that fit this description. For New Balance, they’re entering the scene with the all-new New Balance 204L.
While images of multiple colorways of the sneaker have surfaced online, the pair pictured here is in collaboration with California-based streetwear brand Basketcase. The upper takes cues from NB’s retro runner heritage, as multiple suede panels are layered across it. Of course, this pair pays homage to its signature greyscale aesthetic, synonymous with New Balance.

High fashion flair is present thanks to the use of faux pony hair on the toebox, midfoot, tongue, collar, and midfoot N logo, with the rest of the upper coated in suede. Basketcase logos hit the suede tongue patch and the insole, while the heel features 204L and NB logos. Down below sits a white foam midsole with a black rubber outsole.
While this Basketcase x New Balance 204L has no confirmed release date, it’s possible the pair gets an early drop in Paris as Fashion Week is taking over the French capital. Expect to see the 204L hit shelves in GR colorways sometime this summer.
