No matter where in the world you eat Japan’s most popular cuisine, sushi, it is accompanied by two traditional sides, pickled ginger and wasabi. Here in the States, most of what is called wasabi is really a horseradish mix, but if you seek out the real stuff, the complex flavor is well worth the price. At legendary Japanese retailer atmos, they always spring for the real stuff.
The atmos x New Balance ABZORB 2010 Wasabi is the latest collab between the Tokyo-based boutique and the Boston-based footwear brand, taking on the modern retro 2010 silhouette with a bit of refined spice. Like most atmos collabs, we got a quick preview of the shoe on Instagram, but with the release coming next month, we’ve now got a clear look at the multi-tonal shades of hairy suede.
Featuring four distinct green suedes, the toe, heel, and side panel structure start in a pale shade, while a swoop of fuzzy mint suede is added to the bottom of the side panels, and an army green tone of smooth suede stretches over the toebox and heel for support. Finally, a hairy dark green suede fills in the tongue and heel accents. Cream-colored mesh adds breathability and contrast to complete the look.
