New Balance upgraded one of its most revered silhouettes, the Made in UK 991, with the 991v2 launching in October 2023. Since this debut, the sneaker constructed in Flimby, UK, has undergone multiple inline and collaborative makeovers, one of which was a monochromatic black color courtesy of Stone Island. However, New Balance is offering a similarly-shaded pair to a broader audience in 2025 with the launch of a new Triple Black rendition.
This GR iteration of the 991v2 sees various tonal black shades across its leather, suede, and mesh construction, unlike its Stone Island counterpart, which featured a single monochromatic color palette on its materials. Another significant difference is the lack of Stone Island branding, instead retaining the standard New Balance 991v2 and Made in England embroidery along the tongue. Darker black shades are present on the premium pigskin suede panels on the mudguard, midfoot panel, and heel, while the leather toebox overlay and the mesh base come in a charcoal-like black finish.
Other New Balance branding details also contrast the dark black suede, with the N logo on the midfoot and the 991 branding window on the lateral side seen in the secondary charcoal black finish. Down below, the 991v2s updated sole unit, adding FuelCell cushioning to the mix, comes in a tonal charcoal black finish. Beneath this is a tonal black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 991v2 Made in UK Triple Black has already been released overseas via New Balance China but will see a global drop in the early parts of 2025 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $250. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
