If you’ve ever faced any sort of discouragement or failure in your youth sports career, you’ve likely heard the story about Michael Jordan not being picked for his high school’s varsity basketball team when he was a sophomore. That high school in question was Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, and the following year, Jordan made the basketball squad, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro Laney is one of many Jordan colorways paying tribute to the blue and yellow jersey colors worn by Laney athletes for decades. The 2000 Laney 5 wasn’t the first blue and yellow Jordan pair; that belongs to the AJ 14 Low Laney, but it has become the most iconic Laney tribute pair out of the bunch, and with only one retro release in 2013, the upcoming return is one of the most anticipated drops from next year’s impressive retro schedule.
Featuring a white leather base like a home court basketball jersey, the midsole and top of the tongue pop with a mix of blue and yellow. On the midsole, a blue base gives way to yellow spiked accents above an icy transparent outsole, while the tongue keeps it consistent with a blue satin base and a yellow Jumpman in the middle. Another Jumpman hops on the heel, and a blue and yellow “23” sits on the lateral heel.
According to zSneakerHeadz, the Air Jordan 5 Retro Laney will be released May 15, 2027, through Nike and select Jordan retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $215. To stay up on all the latest Jordan retro news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
