Throughout the 2020s, Nike has had a history of dropping thematic footwear a bit past the time they would be relevant, as shipping and logistics delays plagued the world at the beginning of the decade. These struggles are behind us, but Nike still often drops footwear a bit too close or shortly after the intended holiday, which at first glance may seem to be the case with an all-new kids’ exclusive Air Jordan 1 Mid.
Though the foot X-ray graphic on the upper evokes the spirit of Halloween-themed releases like the Skeleton AF1s or the recent Kobe 5 X-Ray, the pair comes as part of Jordan Brand’s Sneaker School series. Black overlays along the mudguard, eyestays, and heel overlay come in a material similar to the one that makes up a cast, playing well with the X-Ray foot graphic along the midfoot and toebox. Semi-translucent TPU on the Swoosh and collar allows you to see the layer below, with the collar featuring a large 23 graphic in a contrasting black hue.
