In the year 2000, Hidefumi Hommyo founded atmos, spawning what has become a sneaker boutique empire spanning nearly 50 stores across the globe. While the brand has left the US market, it’s still a force to be reckoned with regarding its presence in retail and the collaborative world. atmos, which is entering its 25th year in operation, is gearing up for an array of collaborations to celebrate the birthday, kicking things off with long-time partner Asics.
Adding a third partner to the mix, atmos and Asics tap GRIP SWANY, a Japanese outerwear brand that previously worked with atmos on a collaborative Crocs, to bring the brand’s yellow hue to the GT-2160. Piping of the nubuck tiger stripes and select overlays, including portions of the suede mudguard and leather heel, takes on GRIP SWANY’s yellow, while the rest of the sneaker opts for a sleek black finish. For its base, atmos applies the GT-2160’s usual mesh construction, while boot-inspired laces with a toggle lean into the construction aesthetic of GRIP SWANY.
