In 1980, Terry Fox, a Canadian amputee, began to run nationwide to raise money for cancer research, making headlines worldwide for his efforts. Running the equivalent of a full marathon every day, his Marathon of Hope ended up raising over $24 million Canadian before he was forced to end due to his cancer spreading to his lungs. He undertook this monumental task wearing a pair of adidas sneakers as the German sportswear brand donated 26 pairs of the adidas Orion to Terry. Now, 45 years later, adidas Canada is re-releasing the Orion with special nods to Fox.
The original navy and white colorway Terry wore during his Marathon of Hope is recreated in a near 1:1 fashion, though updated branding details are present on this special edition. The navy nylon base layer remains, as do the leather and suede panels on the mudguard, eyestays, and heel, while white leather accents are on the Three Stripes and heel tab. Terry Fox’s name is stamped in metallic gold foil instead of the Orion text on the midfoot. Final details include a custom 45th-anniversary insole and the original white and navy outsole.
The Terry Fox x adidas Orion 45th Anniversary will release exclusively via adidas Canada on July 3, 2025. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is $145 CAD (approx $105 USD). All proceeds will go to the Terry Fox Foundation to help with cancer research, with the foundation having raised over $600 million for the cause.
