Victor Wembanyama Signs Nike Extension, Unveils New Logo, and Lands Signature Model

He’s really not from this planet, is he? Victor Wembanyama rightfully earned his “alien” nickname as he descended upon the NBA like a 7’4” extraterrestrial who can shoot like a guard. While he has continued to dominate the league and helped bring his San Antonio Spurs to the NBA Finals last season, what a star of his power has been missing is a signature sneaker. That’s all coming to fruition as Wemby just signed an extension with Nike that includes his own shoe, the Nike Wemby 1.
Wemby’s Signature Logo Reveal
To unveil his out-of-this-world logo, Nike recreated the Big Bang, with the aftermath of the implosion revealing Wemby’s stylized “VW” logo. The abstract look almost like a mirrored Swoosh logo. Previously, Nike debuted an alien logo for Wembanyama, something we’ve seen used on his player-exclusive sneakers over the last two years, but this new logo will adorn his Nike Wemby 1.
Nike and Wembanyama’s Sneaker History
Victor Wembanyama and Nike inked their initial deal in 2022 before Wemby entered the NBA, and just prior to the 2023 NBA Draft, the deal was extended another three years. His contract with Nike was set to expire in October 2026, but this new multi-year extension keeps him with The Swoosh for the foreseeable future. As of now, there are no specifics on the length or the dollar amount attached.
Over his career with Nike, Wembanyama has worn sneakers from the Greater Than line, mostly sticking to the GT Hustle 3 in recent seasons. He’s received nine player-exclusive colorways of Nike shoes since his first PE on the GT Hustle 2 was released in May 2024. Following that, he dropped five colorways of the GT Hustle 3 and two of the GT Cut 4. We’re still waiting on a release for his NY vs. NY GT Cut 4 PE.
When Does the Nike Wemby 1 Release?
There are no exact specifics on when the Nike Wemby 1 will be released, but Nike typically announces signature shoe deals about 18-24 months before they plan to drop the sneaker. If things line up, we might get a Cade Cunningham and Victor Wembanyama signature sneaker debut in the same year.
