Sweet treats transcend language and culture, and in Korea, 아이스케키 (Aiseu-Keki) is something many remember from childhood. Translating in English to “ice bar,” the frozen dessert was sold by street vendors, something VANDYTHEPINK co-founder Vandy Son fondly remembers. He spent the first 17 years of his life in Korea, and to commemorate his heritage, he’s bringing an ice cream vibe to two colorways of the Asics Gel-Kayano 12.1

VANDYTHEPINK x Asics Gel-Kayano 12.1 Ice Cream Pack Details

The Previous VANDYTHEPINK collaborations with Asics brought a banana split to the Japanese footwear brand’s Gel-Nimbus 10.1, and this latest team-up is no different. Evoking the days of the neighborhood enjoying ice bars, the two Gel-Kayano 12.1 come in classic flavors of vanilla and chocolate. References to Korean culture are found throughout the shoebox and the sneaker itself, with the brand even having its name written in Korean on the tongue tag.

Both the vanilla and chocolate colorways come with metallic silver overlays throughout, with the base layer representing the titular flavor. Pops of yellow and pink appear on both colors, though in different spots, with more details for VANDYTHEPINK found on the lateral side of the left shoe. Below sits a tonal sole unit, done in cream, yellow, pink, and green on the vanilla pair and brown and yellow on the chocolate colorway.

VANDYTHEPINK x Asics Gel-Kayano 12.1 Ice Cream Pack

The VANDYTHEPINK x Asics Gel-Kayano 12.1 Ice Cream Pack will be released throughout the first week of August via multiple channels. First, a special pop-up in Los Angeles will take place on August 1 and 2, followed by a New York pop-up at Complex on August 8.

An online drop via VANDYTHEPINK’s site is set for August 8, while a global release via Asics and select retailers is set for August 14. Only the Vanilla pair will be released globally, with the Chocolate colorway exclusively offered via VANDYTHEPINK’s direct-to-consumer channels.
