The Swoosh is swirling up a hurricane in South Florida. After spending the last 11 years with adidas, the University of Miami Canes are bringing the bright orange to Beaverton, locking down a 10-year sponsorship deal with Nike worth more than $200 million.
A Hurricane of Swooshes
One of the biggest NCAA sponsorship signings in the history of college sports, the deal represents a major shift for the legendary Florida school. Thanks to the details of the 12-year deal with adidas, the Three Stripes had the contractual right to match Nike’s terms, but came up short with their final offer.
According to a report from the Miami Herald, the 20 million-plus per year Nike is injecting into the university will go towards NIL deals for players across sports, athletic department costs, and potentially some major renovations on campus in Miami.
Plenty of PEs On the Way
The University of Miami Nike deal won’t kick in until next year, but expect to see a serious run of Hurricanes PEs and Nike gear in the decade to come. To keep up with all the latest Nike news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
