Travis Hunter Debuts Anthony Edwards’ adidas AE 1 Cleats

Travis Hunter made his NFL debut this weekend, and not only did his Jacksonville Jaguars get their fans a rare home win, but the second pick from this year’s draft already etched himself in the history books. “The Unicorn” (as he calls himself) became just the second player in the past 10 years to play at least 30 offensive snaps and five defensive snaps in the same game. In his pre-game warm-ups, Hunter gave a nod to another two-way talent and adidas teammate, Anthony Edwards, debuting the first on-foot look at a pair of adidas AE 1 cleats.
Hunter broke out the black and white AE 1 cleats before suiting up on Sunday, showing us the first on-foot look at the pair leaked earlier this year. The two-tone cleat features a black finish on the mesh bootie and a white TPU Generative Support Wing. Despite the retooled sole, the football update looks nearly identical to the original silhouette and comes in a color scheme similar to the AE 1 Best of Adi.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen NFL players repurpose hoop shoes into football cleats, and it isn’t even the first time someone has added spikes to an AE 1. Before the official adidas release was announced, Minneapolis sports stars were already jumping on the AE hype train, with Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison breaking out a pair of customs last season and Twins pitcher Bailey Ober rocking two separate pairs of AE 1 baseball cleats. The Twin Cities are really all-in on Ant Fever.
Hunter switched out of his AE 1 cleats before kick-off, so we didn’t get to see how the pair stood up on both sides of the ball against live competition. But unlike most hoops-turned-cleat PEs, adidas will be releasing the AE 1 Low Football Cleat Best of Adi in June 2026, so you’ll have your chance to hit next year’s Thanksgiving pick-up game in style.
