Women’s tennis GOAT Serena Williams has been retired from the pro circuit for a few years now, but like so many superstars of their sport, her legacy at Nike continues to live on. Beyond her own ideas, Williams founded the Serena Williams Design Crew (SWDC) inside of Nike to allow young designers to show their skills through Williams’ signature label. On its latest collection, the SDWC tackles a classic beloved in Serena’s hometown.
The SWDC x Nike Cortez Collection features two pairs of the soccer-inspired lifestyle classic known for its place in Los Angeles sneaker culture. Arriving in two-tone colorblocking matching soft nubuck and textured leather, the women’s exclusive SWDC Cortez pack features one shoe in black with cream accents and a reverse flip in cream with black accents.
Both pairs feature black nubuck across the side panels, and cream-colored premium textured leather with crimped edges on the toebox, lace panel, and side panel Swooshes. A contrasting lace stabilizer runs up the entire tongue, with two-tone hiking laces, and a simple suede Swoosh tag on the top of the tongue. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Serena shoe without some tennis reference, and a bright green tennis ball hit is added to the insoles.
