Hate to say we told you so, but… we told you so.

We’ve been keeping up with every shoe Steph Curry wears to games during his surprise sneaker free agency this season, even as he’s sidelined for a week or two with a nagging injury. Last night, before the Warriors became the latest log fed to the OKC buzzsaw, Steph arrived at the Chase Center in a pair of Nike Air Zoom Flight The Gloves, honoring an Oakland legend and Hall of Fame Supersonic, before the Seattle team moved to OKC. And if you’ve been paying attention to our game-by-game Curry sneaker predictions, you’ll see we definitely called this one.

Steph Curry isn’t known for his defense, but when it comes to repping Oakland, the 17-year Warrior has always put on for his second home, and that means paying respect to The Town’s hometown legend, Gary Payton. Payton has plenty of ties to the Warriors beyond the Oakland connection, with his son, Gary Payton II, coming off the bench for the Dubs every night. During Steph’s absence, GPII has seen even more time on the court, putting up 13 points in 27 minutes against OKC on Tuesday.

In the weeks since announcing his split from Under Armour, Steph has made a point to wear multiple pairs of sneakers per night, arriving in the stadium, during warm-ups, and, when healthy, in the game. On Tuesday, the home game against OKC has a perfect spot to break out the black, white, and red pair of The Glove, reminding fans of the team’s long history in Seattle.

Steph is already gearing up to get back on the court, and in an early-day practice before the OKC game, Curry was seen rehabbing in a pair of adidas Harden Vol. 10, another subtle shoutout to the OKC Thunder past and Curry’s longtime Western Conference rival. The Warriors will be in Philadelphia on Thursday to play the 76ers, and to us, this feels like the easiest stop on the Curry Watch tour yet…no Question.
