When an athlete doesn’t like their own signature shoe, you know there’s a problem behind the scenes. Look at Kyrie Irving, who at one point was one of Nike’s most successful signature athletes, but left the company in 2022. Early images of the Kyrie 8, which was later renamed the Kyrie Infinity, surfaced online in 2021, and Irving was quick to disparage his own sneaker. “These are trash. I have absolutely nothing to do with them!” he said in an Instagram post. While Steph Curry hasn’t publicly stated anything about his final signature sneaker release with Under Armour, Sole Retriever can exclusively report that Curry is NOT a fan of his 13th model, according to multiple sources very close to the situation.

Over the summer, Steph Curry was spotted a few times wearing the Curry 13 in practices, but as the season drew closer, he began to run the court in the Curry Series 7, a “takedown” model of the mainline Curry series. Our sources indicate that during the development of the Curry 13, Steph’s feedback was not taken into account, and the brand proceeded with a design that he disliked. This is likely why, in the first few weeks of the NBA season, before Curry announced he would be leaving Under Armour, he was taking the court in the Series 7.

Typically, the new Curry model debuts just ahead of the NBA season, but we didn’t get our first look at the Curry 13 until December. It was announced that the model will be released in February 2026 and drop through October 2026. After that, Under Armour and Curry’s relationship will officially be finished.

Sole Retriever recently reported on Under Armour gutting the Curry team left at the brand, and it's clear they are no longer promoting their sneaker releases in the same manner as before. Our sources also told us they’re unsure how the marketing for the Curry 13 will be handled since the team is decimated. Another development that occurred over Christmas is the Curry Brand account being deactivated on Instagram.

As mentioned before, Under Armour is expected to release the Curry 13 in February 2026, but there’s no guarantee that Steph will even lace them up in an NBA game. Since becoming a sneaker free agent, Curry has taken every opportunity to wear whatever he wants in the tunnel walk, pre-game warm-ups, and in-game, rarely lacing up Under Armour. If we don’t see Steph wear the Curry 13, you now know why.
