Media day is as close as the NBA gets to fashion week, with new jerseys making their debut and players showing up in the sneakers they want on their playing cards and press kits. With three new colorways of his signature Converse Shai 001 on the way, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander pushed things further into the future and showed up to media day with a different plan.
SGA broke out a pair of all-white Shai 001s for the photoshoot with his Thunder teammates, keeping up the monochrome colorway theme that the MVP has brought to the first four official releases of his first signature shoe. Also like those pairs, the upper uses a puffy neoprene combined with synthetic leather and engineered mesh. Shai’s logo, which he designed himself, is embroidered on the tongue in a tonal finish, while the zipper shroud obscures the white lace set..
One of the most anticipated shoes of the NBA offseason, the Converse Shai 001 debuted in a work boot tan Butter colorway to long lines at sneaker stores across North America, especially in OKC and SGA’s hometown, Toronto. After the successful debut, Converse announced three more colorways, Hail Clay, Masi Blue, and Charm Black, following in October. Converse has already revved up hype for those colorways with a pack of Chuck Taylors in matching monochrome suede.
There’s no release info for the triple white Shai 001 yet, but SGA is a calculated businessman, and we’re certain he knew people would notice the coke white Converse on his feet for media day, so we’re expecting news of a drop date to follow in the near future.
