The Shai 001 is Converse’s biggest basketball release since Magic and Bird were going toe-to-toe over the Weapon. Okay, D Wade had his moment with the single star in the early 2000s, but still, this year’s SGA rollout has been a significant shift in signature sneaker hype for Converse. To keep the stoke rolling, the brand is directing as much energy towards the MVP as possible, and the latest pack of Chuck Taylor All Stars has a very familiar aura.

The Converse Chuck Taylor Shai 001 pack isn’t technically an SGA collab, but with three monochrome high top All-Stars dipped in the exact same shades as the next Shai 001 colorways, Masi Blue, Hail Clay, and Charm Black, it’s a pretty clear homage to the reigning NBA MVP. To make the connection even clearer, the Chucks drop the same day as the upcoming Shai 001s.

Just like Shai’s modern performance basketball shoe, the three classic hoops shoes feature a monochrome suede design that covers every inch of the shoe, except the silver lace eyelets. The foxing, star patch, and outsole keep the color scheme consistent, though, for a perfect off-court companion to the matching Shais.
