The Red Sox and Yankees Rivalry Gets the Nike Dunk Treatment

As August gives way to September, we’re transitioning from the worst season of sports fandom to the absolute best. College football has already kicked off, the W is cooking, NFL is about to start, and baseball is finally through the doldrums of summer and getting interesting.
Nike has taken notice, loading up the shop with some home run pieces to rock throughout the pennant chase.

As we check back in on the diamond, the battle for the AL East is a tight one, with the Blue Jays leading the way and the Red Sox and Yankees in a near-dead heat for second. My Orioles? Horrendous season and a non-factor, wasting the youth of one of the most promising lineups in the game. But they’re not relevant enough to cover, so I digress.

Don’t look now but after nearly a decade of being a distant memory, the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry is kind of back. Both teams are in the mix, fighting each other for positioning, with rosters giving fans hope for the future.
The Sox took 3-out-of-4 from the Yanks over the weekend, pulling a half-game ahead in the division standings and Wild Card race. To mark the series and renewed interest in the rivalry, Nike dropped a pack of Dunk Low Retros featuring a pair for each team.
Though not an official collab, it’s pretty clear who these are for. The Massholes get a white Dunk blocked in thunder blue and university red, while the Yankees fans get Photon Dust and Midnight Navy. Both colorways feature laces that evoke the stitching on a baseball and the whole ensemble sitting on a coconut midsole, which looks like home plate with a little dirt rubbed into it.
Both fanbases can get double duty out of these as baseball season ends and football rages on. Red Sox fans can pair them up with Patriots gear, and the Yankees faithful can wear them to cheer on their beloved Cowboys.

If the shoes aren’t enough for you, here are some other highlights from Nike to complete the fit.
