Arguably, the most creative division at Nike is its skateboarding sublabel, Nike SB. For decades, we’ve seen clever homages to pop culture through unofficial projects, co-branded collabs with the biggest names in the sport and even bigger names outside of it, and of course, detail-packed inline colorways. Representing the latter of the bunch is the recently released SB Dunk Low Songkran, a love letter to Thailand and the new year celebration that takes place every April 13. Alongside the release pair, the Nike SB team crafted a special friends and family version in collaboration with Nike’s Ascend team, which “fosters a community for those connected to Asia, the Middle East, and Pacific Islands.”

Where the retail version of the Songkran SB Dunk Low is coated in a tan color palette reminiscent of the bags that carry rice, this F&F version is done in a green, pink, and tan color scheme that pays homage to wildcard sticky rice baskets. The green on the mudguard, eyestay, and heel overlay represents the Pandan leaf, while pink on the midfoot recalls Lotus flowers.

An added Lotus flower is found on the lateral heel, while Nike’s Ascend logo finds a home on the tongue tag. Nike SB designer Heather Truong drew an illustration that references pandan leaf art on the sockliner. Finishing the design are the metallic silver panels on the heel tab and collar, a detail found on the retail version, and a dark gum midsole and cream outsole.

The Ascend Nike SB Dunk Low Songkran F&F will not be released to the public and will remain exclusive to friends and family of the Nike SB team.
