Sometimes, it takes 55 years to bring a product to market. For Nike and the OG waffle-pressed Moon Shoe, originally constructed in 1971 when Nike was still Blue Ribbon Sports, the more than half-century hold for a true in-line release was well worth the wait.

The Nike Moon Shoe was never released in the 1970s, but served as inspiration for the brand’s initial run of debut track shoes, the Oregon Waffle and smash-hit follow-up Waffle Trainer. “There had been no real innovation in outsoles for decades,” Nike Running Historian Rick Lower said about the Moon Shoe. “Running shoes were basically just a sheet of rubber to protect your feet from the road, and traction and cushioning were secondary. Bowerman wasn’t willing to accept that.”

The Moon Shoe was brought back by the French fashion house Jacquemus last year, with follow-up colorway runs dropping since. Now, the Moon Shoe is finally making its way into Nike’s lifestyle catalog with a little help from Olympic superstar Alysa Liu.

The Nike Moon Shoe will be released April 3, 2026 through Nike SNKRS with a wide release on Nike’s webstore following on May 7, 2026. Available in women’s sizing, the retail price is set at $105. For all the latest Nike retro news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
