Over Nike's storied history, the brand has introduced some of the most revolutionary products in the footwear industry, including the Air Max 1 and Jordan 1. However, for as many instances of successful innovations, there are as many, if not more, that failed. The LD-1000, a long-distance runner produced in 1977, is an example. The design featured a flared heel to reduce torque on the leg and pressure on the knee; the sneaker ironically led to injuries and was recalled shortly after its debut. Despite this, the LD-1000 left its mark in the history of footwear and is now set for a true-to-the-OG retro. Nike has an inline Black Sesame colorway following up on the upcoming Stussy partnership,
The Nike LD-1000 Black Sesame features a combination of mesh and suede on its upper, staying true to the original design. Black suede overlays on the toe, eyestays, and heel complement the black mesh base. Sail leather accents appear on the Swoosh and heel, providing a classic contrast. The tongue and lace set are also in sail, adorned with a vintage Nike logo in orange, adding a touch of nostalgia. Inside, the sneaker pays homage to Athletics West, a track club founded by Nike in 1977, which focused on post-collegiate athletes. Completing the look is the LD-1000 midsole in sesame, paired with the iconic waffle rubber outsole in black.
The Nike LD-1000 Black Sesame will release in Fall 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $100.
