There are many “what if” moments in the sports, but one of the most somber and heartbreaking tragedies was the death of Sean Taylor. His NFL career began in 2004 for the Washington Redskins (now the Commanders), and sadly, during the 2007 season, he was murdered during a home invasion. Sean was en route to becoming one of the greats at the safety position, earning praise as one of the hardest-hitting defensive players in the entire league. To honor his life and legacy, his daughter Jackie Taylor created a Nike KD 18 PE.
The pair was first posted online by Sean Taylor’s former teammate Ryan Clark, who shared the handwritten note included in his mailbag. “Hi Ryan, I am so excited to finally share this collaboration with you!” it reads. “It means so much to me. Every detail was designed with purpose! Hope you love it, Jackie T.”
Included on both the card and the tongue of the left shoe is Sean Taylor’s number 21 with a halo attached to the number 1. As for the color scheme of the sneaker, which Jackie will likely lace up as a member of the UNC Tar Heels women’s volleyball team, the pair is coated in a light university blue hue and accented by cream and pink hits. The Air Terra Humara midfoot cage is outlined in pink, while the mesh base below comes in cream. Final details include text not entirely visible on the midsole, a pink splatter pattern on the midsole itself, and a tonal outsole.
Kevin Durant’s upbringing in the DMV has made him a lifelong fan of Washington’s NFL franchise, and over the years, he’s paid tribute to the team via player exclusives. He already honored the Commanders with his 18th signature sneaker, the KD 18, a few months back with a burgundy and gold colorway.
Jackie Taylor’s Nike KD 18 PE is not expected to have a public release, but you’ll surely be able to see them on the UNC women’s volleyball court. Check below for detailed pictures of the tribute sneaker, and download the Sole Retriever mobile app for updates on the latest drops.
