If you stayed up last night to catch the primetime Sunday Night Football matchup, you caught an exciting game. The Washington Commanders, who are still awaiting the return of sophomore QB Jayden Daniels, mounted a comeback and took the game to overtime against the Denver Broncos. After Denver scored on their first possession, the Commanders were able to march down the field and grab a TD of their own, though they went for a high-risk, high-reward 2-point conversion. After failing to convert, Denver won the game, putting them 10-2 on the season and the Commies at an abysmal 3-9. Well… before this almost-clutch-comeback by the Commanders, DMV native Kevin Durant laced up a special pair of Nike KD 18s dedicated to Jayden and Co.

Throughout Kevin Durant’s career, he’s made plenty of nods to the Washington Commanders, Washington Football Team, and Washington Redskins, all depending on what the team called itself at the time. For this new homage to DC’s squad, which is much more on the nose compared to the Air Bakin colorway released earlier in the year, Durant’s KD 18 is coated in a burgundy patent leather and trimmed in gold throughout.

There’s no direct nods to the franchise or to Jayden Daniels, but sneaker photographer Riccardo Mestre (who goes by uninstructedvision on Instagram) made it clear that KD was repping his hometown team and its star QB. The pair can also double as a Rockets colorway, though the gold details are obviously meant to represent the Commanders.

Unfortunately for us Commanders fans, the Nike KD 18 Commanders PE will remain a player-exclusive for Durant. Maybe we’ll see Jayden Daniels make his tunnel walk return in the pair as he’s expected to be cleared for action in the coming weeks.
