NBA All-Star Weekend gave us a first look at one of Nike’s most exciting new silhouettes in years: the Nike GT Future. Since then, sneakerheads have been salivating at every new colorway debuted by DMV native and Foamposite connoisseur Wale, but it wasn’t until last month's SNKRS Showcase that Nike officially revealed details about the performance basketball model. The Swoosh plans on launching the model during the Holiday 2025 season (October-December), but those in the NYC area will have first dibs this weekend thanks to an ultra-limited pre-order event.

The very first colorway of the GT Future that was spotted on the feet of Wale, the Fire rendition, will be getting a release at this weekend’s NYvsNY tournament. More specifically, Nike will be offering pre-orders limited to 300 pairs. According to the .SWOOSH page detailing the release, you will need to be at Victory Park on August 10 and enable location access on your device.

Online chatter around the GT Future has been mostly positive (though, of course, there are detractors), with many praising Nike Basketball for pivoting from its “stale” design language that has felt quite similar throughout the 2020s.

Pulling inspiration from the Y2K era of Nike Basketball, the GT Future combines elements from the Foamposite and Hyperflight, which is obvious through its sculpted, industrial-like design and ultramodern/futuristic look. Not only does the model look great off and on the court, but it's packed with performance tech like an internal bootie for secure lockdown, a forefoot Air Zoom unit, full-length Zoom Strobel, and Cushlon 3.0 foam.

The Nike GT Future Fire pre-order at NYvsNY will take place on August 10, 2025, at Victory Park. QR codes will be posted around the park for you to scan, which will give you access to pre-order the sneaker. As mentioned before, the drop will be limited to 300 pairs and is expected to ship in approximately four months.
