First round sample of the Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 Brick by Brick

Though many may be tired of hearing it, Nigel Sylvester’s Air Jordan 4 Brick by Brick will end up at the top of many sneaker of the year lists. The storytelling, premium materials, perfectly executed rollout, and limited nature of the pair have sneakerheads everywhere talking about it, even months after its release. Today, images of a first round sample of the pair emerged, showcasing what potentially could have been Nigel’s first AJ 4 project.

The Brick by Brick theme still remains strong on the pair as it comes coated in a similar reddish-orange hue, though there are plenty of differences from the retail version. Outside of the noticeable color difference, the materials appear to be a more standard nubuck you’d find on GR Air Jordan 4s, not the premium suede material we got at retail. The defining feature of the pair, the Bike Air text on the heel tab, is done in a tonal red hue, unlike the retail version, which is done in a contrasting white shade.

The tongue tag is also redone, seen here in a nubuck finish with a raised Jumpman logo instead of the nylon tag and embroidered branding. It also looks like the 3M reflective hits on the netting on the tongue and midfoot has been removed. Around the mudguard, the brick-like texture found on the released pair is gone. Instead, it opts for nubuck. Below, the sole unit isn’t super far off from the release, though the outsole is much more red and lacks any white contrast.

Nigel isn’t done with the Air Jordan 4, though we know we won’t be getting this version of the Brick by Brick AJ 4. He has a second colorway based on the Fire Red AJ 4 launching at a later date, as he previewed the sneaker ahead of the Brick by Brick’s launch. While we all await the release of his next Jordan project, that being the Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG Better With Time, take a look at this sample below.
