Way back in 1982, New Balance revolutionized the running shoe market with its (at the time) eye-popping price tag of $100 for the New Balance 990 Made in USA. The 99X series has since become a flagship franchise for the Boston-based label, and we’ve received five other iterations, the most recent being the 990v6, which debuted in November 2022. Now, four years and a sly teaser thanks to New Balance owner Jim Davis later, the rollout is finally starting for the 990v7.
New Balance 990v7 Made in USA Billboard
Just days after the photo of Jim Davis began to circulate online, New Balance officially teased the seventh 990 model with a somewhat cryptic billboard in NYC. The ad is primarily empty space, with a shrunk-down 990v7 in the classic New Balance greyscale color palette placed in the center. If you were walking the streets or looking out the window of a checkered cab, you’d probably be a bit confused as to what the billboard is advertising. However, the bottom features 990v7 and New Balance logos.
Thanks to Hoodyjandro on X, we have a clear, albeit still a bit grainy, look at the model. The same general shape from the 990v6 remains, mainly seen via the midsole structure, with additional paneling and new overlays added to the upper. For now, that’s all we can really make out, but the brand will likely be providing a full rollout in the coming weeks.
