Archival sneakers have made a massive comeback in the last few years as the vintage aesthetic has become one of fashion's biggest trends. One brand that found success digging into its vault of previously released designs, New Balance, tapped into this market with the revival of the New Balance 550 back in 2020. Since then, collabs and GR releases have flooded the market with 2022 being the model's biggest year so far, though NB is not done with the model just yet. With a variety of neutral black and white color schemes in its roster, yet another New Balance 550 has appeared in Black White.
Taking on the usual leather and mesh construction, the sneaker is doused in a single shade of black across the majority of its upper in a similar manner to the "Panda" colorway. Black leather overlays take over around the toe, quarter panel, and heel while accenting white hits make their mark on branding details like the trimming of the “550” text and “N” logo. Tonal laces match the tongue and leather overlays while the tag up top comes in a mixture of black, white, and grey, featuring the iconic basketball graphic. Along the collar, a strip of white leather breaks up the black mesh look while the heel gets its “NB” logo dressed in white. Underfoot, a white 550 midsole with NB branding details gets paired with a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 550 Black White is set to release on November 1st, 2022 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
