The WNBA All-Star break is over, and as we enter the second half of the W’s season, we’re gearing up for NBA 2K27 to hit shelves. The long-running basketball video game recently unveiled its cover athletes, featuring Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark, and Derrick Rose across three different editions of the game. We haven’t seen any actual gameplay from 2K27 until today, as 2K just dropped its official gameplay trailer for the latest installment.
NBA 2K27 Gameplay Trailer
With the 2K franchise having finished supporting the last generation of consoles, 2K27 will be free from the constraints of older hardware. And it’s clearly visible here in the gameplay trailer. Player models look even more realistic, and the crowds, though they still suffer from repeated character models, have a higher quality look than years prior.
The actual trailer itself is like any hype package you’ve seen from a sports network, with highlight moments of players on the court and fans excited for the game. But one standout moment is LeBron James’ inclusion. His period as a free agent had us all waiting with bated breath to see where he would end up.
In the end, he shocked the world by choosing the Philadelphia 76ers, and the 2K Sports dev team worked overtime to include Philly Bron in this trailer. His iconic pre-game chalk ritual kicks off his appearance, and we later see him dunking wearing a pair of Nike Air Zoom Generations in what looks to be the player-exclusive Olympic colorway.
We also get a glimpse at other players and their shoes, like Caitlin Clark rocking her Nike Caitlin 1, Derrick Rose in his adidas D-Rose 1.5, Ja Morant in the Nike Ja 4, Jaylen Brown in his 741 Rover, Paul George in the PG 1, Donovan Mitchell in the DON Issue 8, Jalen Brunson in his Kobe 3 Low PE, Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Nike Giannis Freak 8, and more.
NBA 2K27 Confirmed Features
Alongside the trailer reveal, 2K gave a full breakdown on features across gameplay, MyPLAYER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, MyCAREER, and The City. The game will be released on September 4, 2026 for the Standard Edition. Those who purchase the Deluxe and Ultra Editions will get access one week early on August 28, 2026. Gameplay
Smarter AI Shot Contest - 2K addressed feedback on AI defenders not being as effective at contesting shots.
Improved Dunk Meter - All dunk attempts in-game are timed using the Dunk Meter. This differs from the static Dunk Meter in 2K26, as in 2K27, the meter is fully dynamic based on a variety of factors.
MyPLAYER
New Badges - A total of 53 badges will be in 2K27, up from 40 in 2K26. Six Badges were removed, but 19 new Badges were added.
Cap Breakers - Players will be able to see a preview of the attribute boosts directly in the MyPLAYER Builder instead of having to enter The City to find the most optimized Cap Breaker layout.
MyTEAM
Cross-Platform Auction House - The Auction House will be cross-platform across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Faster Card Transactions - There is no verification delay when you win an auction on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
MyNBA
Back to Basics - Though 2K didn’t explicitly state all the changes and improvements to MyNBA, they did mention that they’ve “prioritized community requests” like adding No-Trade Clauses to free agents.
MyCAREER & The City
Environment Updates - The same centralized layout of The City from 2K26 returns, but with a nighttime, neon aesthetic.
Rucker Park - 2K will be putting the legendary NYC park into the prelude story of MyCAREER.
