There’s been a lot of talk about game-worn and signed Michael Jordan sneakers lately. No matter where you stand on the authenticity of some very high-profile pairs, the market for Michael Jordan’s Jordans is still going strong, especially when the paperwork adds up. A new pair from Jordan and the Bulls’ historic 72-win 1996 season just hit the auction block, and with only one bid cast, the price is already soaring to five figures.

The game-worn and signed Air Jordan 11 Concord is being auctioned by Grey Flannel Auctions, with a provenance tied to a February 16, 1996, victory against the Timberwolves in Minneapolis. Jordan scored 35 points and recorded seven rebounds while wearing the shoes in a 103-100 win. Two days later, the Bulls traveled to Indiana to play the Pacers, and Jordan made good on a promise he had made to a local ball boy, handing over the shoes and signing them for the kid.

A letter from the former Pacers ball boy ties the shoes directly to Mike and explains the signatures on the ankle collar of each shoe. “To my surprise, when the Bulls returned on February 18th, 1996, MJ promised me the shoes upon arrival,” a letter attached to the pair at auction says. “While in the locker room after the game, I accepted the shoes and requested that MJ autograph both shoes.”
