These days, we typically consider music industry collabs to be the realm of pop stars like LISA and Bad Bunny and rappers like A$AP Rocky and Drake. But in the early days of entertainment industry collabs from Nike SB, metal bands like Iron Maiden, and indie rockers like Dinosaur Jr. were the go-to picks for partnerships. Dr. Martens is getting back to those rock n’ roll roots, teaming up with California heavy metal legends Metallica.
The Metallica x Dr. Martens collection features three shoes, two pairs of the 1460 8-Eye Boot and a 1461 3-Eye shoe. On the first pair of 1460 Boots and the 1461 shoe, Doc starts with a black leather base, and pays tribute to Metallica’s 1986 and 1988 tours, laying on tour graphics from the legendary artist Pushead, whose art has also appeared on collab pairs on Nike SB Dunks. The pairs also feature an “M” heel stud, custom dog tags, and an alternate set of laces printed with “Boredom comes from a boring mind.”
The second pair of 1460 8-Eye Boots is exclusive to the Metallica website, and features a full upper in smooth black leather with Metallica embossed on the ankle and “5th Member” added on the laces, representing the band’s nickname for its fans.
The Metallica x Dr. Martens Collection was released today, January 29, 2026, with the Pushead graphic pairs available through Metallica’s shop and Dr. Martens in-store and online, and the Metallica-exclusive 1460 8-Eye Boot available only through Metallica’s website. Available in unisex sizing, the retail prices are set at $180 for the 1461 shoe and $200 for the 1460 Boots.
