Melitta Baumeister turned the sneaker game on its head this spring. The NYC-based luxury womenswear designer dropped two pairs of Nike Running shoes, adding hand-painted black smudges to bright orange and green to the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium, respectively. After crashing sites and selling out immediately, Nike ran back the collab for a pre-order release, helping to kick-start a new wave of pre-release purchases on exclusive pairs.
Baumeister is Back
Now, with Baumeister’s sneaker industry stock riding high, Nike is cashing in with a new collab. Announced in a set of avant-garde images molding clay into footwear and warping a sneaker into an alien-like figure with one single eye, holding true to the “always watching” motif from the spring collab. In the twisted take on a sneaker, you can make out the straps and tabi toe of one particular archival Nike model.
