Kelsey Plum Debuts Under Armour Breakthru 5 Engine 21 PE to Honor her Firefighter Brother
Published
As an Under Armour athlete, Kelsey Plum is blessed with the ability to use her sneakers as a means to tell stories that are personal to her. We’ve previously seen Plum reference her favorite snack, berry smoothies, with an Under Armour Breakthru 5 PE, but her latest exclusive hits closer to the heart. Last night during the Sparks’ game against the Las Vegas Aces, Plum debuted a new Breakthru 5 PE inspired by her younger brother Daniel and his job as a firefighter.
To honor her brother’s heroic career path, Plum not only created this special player-exclusive Under Armour Breakthru 5 PE but also gifted him a matching firefighting jacket. The pair itself borrows elements found on firefighting uniforms, such as highlighter yellow details on the nylon lace loops and heel tab. Most of the sneaker is done in a mixture of grey and black, with red piping on the edge of the black leather panels.
Split between the two heels are “21” and “Bubby,” 21 referencing Oceanside Fire’s emblem and Bubby a nickname she gave to her younger brother. The insole displays Oceanside Fire’s logo on the left pair, while the right features a similar design but with Kelsey Plum’s KP logo placed in the center. The white UA Flow foam midsole and outsole finish the sneaker.
Kelsey Plum’s Under Armour Breakthru 5 Engine 21 PE will remain exclusive to her and her brother Daniel and not see a public release.
